Leading Technology Research Firm Names SynchrologicTM as Visionary

Synchrologic Email Accelerator enters the Visionary Quadrant of research firm's first Email Magic Quadrant

Atlanta, November 19, 2002 - According to Gartner, a leading research and advisory firm, Synchrologic is positioned as a Visionary in the analyst's firm first Magic Quadrant for mobile email. Gartner evaluated 12 vendors with the goal of identifying which companies will deliver the most effective mobile and wireless technologies. The report "Mobile E-mail/PIM Magic Quadrant: Emerging Choices," states that E-mail is the communication medium of choice for most businesses, and is usually the first application to be mobilized by an enterprise. E-mail is popular, the report states, because it can affect all workers who deploy it. It recognizes that device-agnostic mobile platforms will become increasingly important, because new personal digital assistant (PDA) models have built-in wireless support, new smart phones are emerging, and browser-based-only models are not appropriate for business users, because of the unpredictability of wireless coverage. Enterprises that adopt device-agnostic mobile platforms will have lower support costs, resulting in lower total cost of ownership.

"Synchrologic's position in the mobile Email market is yet another indicator that no other vendor can compare with the scope of Synchrologic's comprehensive mobile infrastructure software," said Bill Jones, vice president of products for Synchrologic. "Accessing email while out of the office should not be a complex undertaking for mobile workers. They should have access to their email, calendar, contacts, and all information from Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino regardless of what device they are carrying or even from any Web browser. Integrating these normal out-of-the-office activities such as reading email to the systems management activities that IT requires to support mobile devices is another integral component to a successful mobile deployment that drives down the cost of device ownership."

Gartner Inc.'s Magic Quadrant positions vendors in a particular market segment based on their vision and ability to execute that vision. Leaders are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market. Visionaries have a clear vision of market direction and are focused on preparing for that, but they can still improve in terms of optimizing service delivery. Challengers execute well today, but have a less-defined view of market direction and, therefore, may not be aggressive in their preparation for the future. Niche Players focus on a particular segment of the client base, as defined by characteristics such as size, vertical or project complexity. Their ability to outperform or innovate may be impacted by this narrow focus.

About Gartner's Magic Quadrant

The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted October 2002 by Gartner Inc., Inc. and is reused with permission. Gartner Inc.'s permission to print or reference its Magic Quadrant should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner Inc.'s opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner Inc.-defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner Inc. does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the Leaders segment. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player segments may be the right match for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant.
